LITTLE ACORNS
Little Acorns is a gentle, outdoor child-caregiver nature class for two-year-olds. Designed especially for toddlers and their grown-ups, this 30-minute class offers a calm, playful introduction to learning in nature.
Together, children and their caregivers will explore the natural world through sensory play, simple nature walks, songs, movement, and hands-on discovery. Activities are child-led and developmentally appropriate, allowing toddlers to explore at their own pace while caregivers provide comfort, support, and connection.
This class emphasizes:
-
Curiosity and wonder in nature
-
Gross motor movement and sensory exploration
-
Early language development
-
Social connection in a small, supportive group
-
Strengthening the child-caregiver bond
Caregivers attend alongside their child and are encouraged to observe, participate gently, and follow their child's interests. No prior experience is needed - just comfortable clothes, curiosity, and a willingness to get a little messy.
How a Nature-Based Class Supports Attachment and Preschool Readiness -
Support for healthy attachment
-
A safe, outdoor environment where children can explore freely while staying close to a trusted caregiver
-
Reinforcement of the “secure base” relationship: I can explore because my caregiver is here for me
-
Opportunities for shared joy through nature play, songs, movement, and quiet observation
-
Responsive caregiving moments that help children co-regulate emotions and build confidence
-
Child-led exploration that honors each child’s interests, pace, and cues
Gentle preparation for preschool
-
Exposure to a small group setting without the pressure of separation
-
Simple, predictable routines that reflect preschool rhythms in a relaxed, developmentally appropriate way
-
Positive experiences with other adults as children observe caregivers engaging with the teacher
-
Practice with brief moments of independence—moving away to explore and returning for reassurance
-
Early social experiences that feel safe, supported, and enjoyable
Why the 30-minute format matters
-
Respects the attention span and emotional needs of two-year-olds
-
Provides meaningful engagement without overstimulation or fatigue
-
Helps children associate group learning and new environments with calm and success
Together, these experiences nurture secure attachment, emotional resilience, and early social skills—creating a gentle, confidence-building bridge between home and preschool.
Little Acorns is a nurturing first step for toddlers beginning their journey into group learning and outdoor education.
