Join Us for Spring Nature Camp at China Camp State Park!
Welcome to a gentle, wonder-filled spring adventure designed especially for our youngest explorers, ages 3–5. With just 6 campers max, Snails & Turkey Tails offers an intimate, nurturing environment where children can slow down, look closely, and discover the magic of the natural world. Whether we're exploring at the beach or in the forest, our days are shaped by curiosity. Each experience is guided by the rhythms of the season and the interests of the children.
Why Outdoor Exploration Matters (Especially at Ages 3–5)
Early childhood is a time of rapid growth — physically, emotionally, and socially. Time spent outdoors offers powerful benefits:
-
Sensory-rich learning: Nature engages all five senses, building neural connections and supporting cognitive development.
-
Gross motor development: Climbing over roots, balancing on logs, and hiking gentle trails strengthen coordination and confidence.
-
Emotional regulation: Natural spaces calm the nervous system, helping young children build resilience and self-awareness.
-
Creativity & problem-solving: Open-ended environments inspire imagination and independent thinking.
-
Social growth: Small-group exploration encourages cooperation, empathy, and communication.
Our Values
At Snails & Turkey Tails, connection is at the heart of everything we do. We value deep relationships — with the land, with each other, and within ourselves. Our small group size allows us to truly know each child. We strive to create a space where every camper feels confident, appreciated, and capable.
Through patient guidance, gentle encouragement, and joyful discovery, children build a strong sense of belonging and self-trust. Here, muddy boots and wide eyes are celebrated.
A Few of Our Favorite Camp Activities -
Nature Hikes
Campers enjoy short hikes, observing wildlife and collecting sticks, leaves, and stones to turn into nature paintbrushes and art. They learn about local trees, plants, birds, and insects while discovering textures, shapes, and colors in nature.
Scavenger Hunts
Exploration and teamwork meet fun as campers search for hidden natural and man-made items throughout the park.
Animal Observation
Lake Lagunitas is home to many species! Campers notice wildlife in their environment, read books, and make crafts to learn more about the animals they encounter.
Arts & Crafts
Campers use natural materials like leaves, sticks, and stones to create works of art. Observing the beauty of nature inspires creativity and hands-on learning.
Nature-Based Play
This is the heart of our program. Campers have time to explore independently, with friends, or in groups—climbing trees, building forts, making nests, or quietly observing the world around them. Children balance on the slackline, push eachother in the hammock, play fun parachute games, and get creative in the mud kitchen!
Storytime
Each morning begins with a circle and a story about animals, nature, or friendship. Our mini library encourages campers to dive deeper into leaves, trees, and wildlife throughout the day.
