Welcome To The The Nature Atelier

At Snails & Turkey Tails, we believe that children have a hundred languages for expressing themselves—through painting and building, movement and storytelling, collecting and creating, wondering and discovering. Our Nature Atelier is a place where those languages come to life.

Part artist's studio, part workshop, part nature sanctuary, the Nature Atelier is a thoughtfully prepared outdoor environment where children are invited to explore materials, ideas, and the natural world with curiosity and joy. There are no prescribed crafts or step-by-step projects here. Instead, children are offered time, space, beautiful materials, and the freedom to follow their own ideas.

Our atelier travels with us and changes with the seasons. On any given day, children may find a cozy camping tent for quiet reflection and imaginative play, a hammock swaying beneath the trees, a slack line for balancing bodies and building confidence, a tool station for constructing and creating, and carefully curated art materials and natural treasures waiting to be explored.

Children might sculpt with clay, paint with watercolors, weave with natural fibers, build with sticks and wood, create ephemeral art from found objects, hammer and construct with real tools, or spend an entire morning captivated by a feather, a beetle, or the changing light through the trees.

We believe that creativity is not separate from learning—it is learning.

Why a Nature Atelier?

When children create in nature, they engage their whole selves. They learn to observe closely, solve problems, take risks, express emotions, and develop confidence in their own ideas.

Our Nature Atelier supports:

  • Creativity and self-expression

  • Confidence and independence

  • Fine and gross motor development

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking

  • Sensory integration and emotional regulation

  • Collaboration and communication

  • Resilience and perseverance

  • A lifelong connection to the natural world

Most importantly, it honors childhood as a time of wonder, play, and discovery.

Child & Caregiver Nature Atelier

Ages 18 Months–3 Years | 90 Minutes

$525/12 week studio

6 children max

Our youngest explorers attend with a parent or caregiver, sharing in the joy of discovery together.

Each class unfolds slowly and organically, allowing children to explore at their own pace. We may gather around an invitation to paint, create with clay and natural materials, swing in the hammock, build with loose parts, explore sensory experiences, or wander together in search of tiny wonders.

There is no expectation to produce a finished product. Instead, we focus on process, connection, and the simple magic of being outdoors together.

This class offers children a gentle introduction to creative exploration while providing caregivers with the opportunity to observe, participate, and build community alongside other families.

Nature Atelier Drop-Off Class

Ages 3–6 Years | 2 Hours

$840/12 week studio

6 children max

Our drop-off class offers children the freedom to explore deeply, create boldly, and develop confidence in a small, supportive outdoor community.

Each gathering begins with a carefully prepared invitation—a collection of materials, tools, or questions designed to spark curiosity. From there, children take the lead.

A morning in the atelier might include:

  • Painting, drawing, sculpting, and creating

  • Woodworking and construction using real tools

  • Building forts and imaginative worlds

  • Balancing and movement challenges on the slack line

  • Quiet moments of observation in the hammock or tent

  • Collaborative projects and storytelling

  • Nature exploration and collecting

  • Open-ended play and experimentation

Some children may spend the entire class absorbed in building a structure. Others may create a series of paintings inspired by a bird's nest or devote themselves to mastering the slack line. We honor these deep investigations and trust children to guide their own learning.

At the Nature Atelier, children are not simply making art. They are developing confidence, creativity, resilience, and a sense of belonging in the natural world.

"Liesha exuded such positive and exploratory energy that our kids felt it through beautiful osmosis! From climbing trees to collecting artifacts in nature, this class gave our kids such valuable lessons which they continue to take forward with them, as their curiosity grows. We look forward to signing up again!"
