A small, nature-based learning community where young children have the freedom to explore, imagine, create, and discover the wonders of the natural world.

Rooted in child-led play and inspired by the beauty of Marin, our Saturdays are filled with muddy hands, curious minds, sensory discoveries, and the simple magic of being a child.

A gentle, nature-filled drop-off program for curious explorers.

“Childhood is meant to be lived outdoors, where little hands get muddy, imaginations grow wild, and every day brings a new adventure.”

A Little More Wonder. A Little More Nature.

Imagine fall days spent splashing in puddles, mixing mud pies, gathering tiny treasures, listening to birdsong, and discovering the magic hidden in an ordinary patch of earth. Imagine little hands digging, pouring, stacking, collecting, and creating—while little minds begin to make sense of the world around them.

Snails & Turkey Tails Nature Club is a small, nature-based drop-off program at China Camp State Park for children ages 3-7. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and the belief that childhood is meant to be lived outdoors, our Nature Club days offer young children the time, space, and freedom to explore the natural world at their own pace.

At this age, everything is a discovery. A puddle is an invitation to experiment. A fallen leaf becomes a treasure. A pile of dirt can become an entire imaginary world.

We believe kids don't need to be entertained every moment. They need opportunities to move, wonder, repeat, experiment, and discover—with caring educators nearby to offer reassurance, encouragement, and support as their confidence grows.

Here, there is no rush to grow up. No prescribed crafts or expectation that every child do things the same way. Instead, we celebrate the little moments, the big discoveries, and the extraordinary learning that happens through everyday play.

Learning Through the Natural World

Nature is a wonderful teacher, especially for young children who are learning about the world through their senses and their whole bodies.

Our outdoor environment invites children to touch, carry, pour, dig, build, balance, observe, and imagine. Through simple, open-ended experiences, children begin to explore concepts such as cause and effect, size, quantity, texture, movement, and change.

A morning might include:

  • Mixing mud pies, scooping soil, pouring water, and experimenting in the mud kitchen.

  • Discovering leaves, sticks, stones, flowers, and other natural treasures.

  • Watching ants crawl, listening to birds, and noticing changes in the seasons.

  • Building, stacking, balancing, climbing, and moving their bodies in new ways.

  • Exploring sensory materials, creating with natural objects, and making art without a prescribed outcome.

  • Enjoying stories, songs, pretend play, and the beginnings of shared imaginative worlds.

These experiences nurture problem-solving, creativity, physical development, and scientific curiosity—not through formal lessons, but through meaningful, hands-on exploration.

A Childhood Led by Curiosity

Inspired by Reggio Emilia principles, we see children as capable, curious individuals with their own ideas, interests, and ways of expressing themselves.

Children learn by doing. They may fill and empty the same container dozens of times, carry a favorite stick from one place to another, or return to a puddle again and again. What may look simple to an adult is often rich with experimentation, concentration, and discovery.

Rather than directing every activity, we observe, listen, and follow children's interests. We offer inviting materials, ask thoughtful questions when appropriate, and give children room to explore in their own ways.

We value the process over the finished product, curiosity over performance, and meaningful experiences over predetermined outcomes.

Our goal isn't to rush children toward the next milestone. It's to nurture their natural desire to learn while protecting the imagination, creativity, and sense of wonder that make these early years so special.

Growing Confidence, One Little Step at a Time

Young children are learning to communicate their needs, make choices, explore independence, navigate big feelings, and begin building relationships beyond their immediate family.

Outdoor play offers countless opportunities to practice these emerging skills.

With caring guidance and age-appropriate boundaries, children can try new things, encounter manageable challenges, and discover what their bodies can do. They can practice asking for help, sharing space, expressing preferences, and gradually participating in the rhythms of a small group.

We understand that this stage of childhood comes with big feelings, changing needs, and very different developmental timelines. We approach each child with patience, warmth, and respect, recognizing that confidence and independence grow through secure relationships and repeated opportunities to try.

We also make room for quieter moments—watching a butterfly, resting in a cozy space, listening to a story, or simply observing before joining in.

Because childhood isn't a race toward what comes next. It's a world to be experienced, one little discovery at a time.
