Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you serve?
Our summer camps are designed for children ages 3–6. Children should be comfortable participating in a small group setting with gentle guidance and support.
Is this a drop-off program?
Yes. Our summer camps are drop-off programs. Our experienced teachers create a warm, nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported, and confident exploring independently.
What is your camper to teacher ratio?
We maintain small group sizes to ensure children receive individualized attention, support, and supervision throughout the day.
What should my child bring to camp?
Campers should come prepared for a full morning outdoors with:
A backpack
Nutritious snack and lunch (nut free)
Water bottle
Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are helpful!)
Closed-toe shoes suitable for hiking and play
We’ll send a detailed packing list before your camp session begins.
What should my child wear?
Please dress your child for outdoor play and getting messy! We recommend:
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (long pants help prevent poison oak exposure)
Light colored clothing makes spotting ticks easier!
Layers for changing conditions
Sun protection (hat, sunscreen applied before arrival)
Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
Are you really outdoors all day?
Yes! Our camp is 100% outdoors. We believe children thrive with ample time in nature and design our program to be safe, engaging, and enjoyable in a variety of weather conditions.
What happens in bad weather?
We embrace a “no bad weather, just the wrong clothing” philosophy. Camp runs in light rain and typical weather conditions. In the case of severe or unsafe weather, we will notify families of any schedule changes. This includes temperatures above 95 degrees.
Can my child attend multiple weeks?
Absolutely! Each week offers new themes, activities, and seasonal adventures, so many families choose to enroll in multiple sessions.
Do you offer extended care?
Yes—optional extended day is available at China Camp for a small group of up to 4 campers. This provides a slower-paced afternoon with continued outdoor play.
What if my child is new to group settings?
That’s completely okay. Our program is designed to gently support children as they build confidence, social skills, and independence. Our small group size and nurturing approach help ease transitions.
How do I register?
You can reserve your child’s spot through our registration page. Spaces are limited and tend to fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.
How do you handle safety?
Safety is a top priority. We establish clear boundaries, teach outdoor safety skills, and support children in assessing risks while exploring. Our approach balances safety with opportunities for growth, confidence, and independence.
What if my child has allergies or medical needs?
Please share any allergies, medications, or medical considerations during registration. We will work with families to determine whether we can safely support your child's needs.
What makes your camps different?
Our camps offer something increasingly rare: long stretches of unhurried outdoor play. Children spend their days climbing, building, imagining, exploring, creating, and connecting with the natural world. Rather than rushing from activity to activity, we make space for curiosity, wonder, friendship, and adventure.
What if my child doesn't like bugs, mud, or getting dirty?
Many children arrive feeling unsure about certain aspects of nature—and that's okay! Camp provides gentle opportunities to build confidence and comfort outdoors. Children are never forced to touch or interact with anything that makes them uncomfortable.
Will my child be hiking all day?
No. While many camp days include walks and exploration, we balance movement with games, creative projects, free play, and time to simply slow down and enjoy nature.
What are the benefits of nature camp?
Nature camp supports physical health, creativity, confidence, resilience, social skills, and problem-solving. Children learn to navigate challenges, collaborate with peers, develop a sense of independence, and build a meaningful connection with the natural world—all while having fun and making memories that last long after summer ends.
What is your summer camp cancellation policy?
Snails & Turkey Tails is a small program and we plan our staffing, permits, and activities well in advance. For this reason, we do not offer refunds. If you need to cancel for any reason we may offer a transfer to another week of camp to be redeemed within a 12 month period.
